Roman Catholic marriages are a little different in so much that if both of you are Catholic the banns go ahead as with other denominations. But they are not part of the churches legal requirements.
But if only one of the pair is Catholic then banns are not published and the priest of the catholic member will have to give permission for the marriage to take place in either a Catholic Church or a non catholic church.
The legal requirements for a Roman Catholic wedding ceremony are identical to those of a civil ceremony.
However if you do not live in the district covered by that church you may have to prove to the superintendent registrar that the church is your normal place of worship. If not you may be required to give notice in the registration district in which the church is located having met the necessary residency requirements. You should speak to the priest or contact the Catholic Advice Centre on 0207 371 1341
Non-Conformist Church Wedding
Marriages are a little different in Non Conformist Churches. These are Protestant Churches other than the Church of England or Church of Wales.
The legal requirements for a wedding ceremony are identical to those of a civil ceremony.
However if you do not live in the district covered by that church you may have to prove to the superintendent registrar that the church is your normal place of worship. If not you may be required to give notice in the registration district in which the church is located having met the necessary residency requirements.
If there is no church of your denomination in the registration district in which you live you will be permitted to marry in a church nearest registration district that has one.
If the minister in charge is not authorized to register marriages then a superintendent registrar will need to attend.
If the church in which you intend to marry is not registered for the solemnisation of marriages then you must arrange for a civil ceremony beforehand to comply with the requirements of the law.
This guide is basically set out for advice for weddings taking place in Churches of the Church of England, Church of Wales, Church of Scotland, Roman Catholic Church, Non Conformist Church and for Civil Ceremonies.
